Every Sunday afternoon, Robson Square offers Free Salsa Dance Lessons for people who are interested in getting to know more about salsa dancing. A friend and I thought it would be a great place to socialize, so we decided to check it out! We got there early to walk around.
We saw a couple of food trucks in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery. Because of all the media attention and positive news, street food has become much more appealing to me than before. Street Food is only becoming a trend in Vancouver recently. Not only are food trucks increasing in number and variety, street food festivals are happening one after another. Vancouver is even ranked as the ‘3rd Best Street Food City in North America’.
Using the recently downloaded app “Street Food”, which allows you to keep track of different food truck schedules and locations in the city, we found Feastro The Rolling Bistro. It was the closest distance to us with the highest number of “likes” (1137 people). Frankly, we were lured in to give it a try just by the number of likes it has!
There are two different locations from where Feastro The Rolling Bistro operates, and the one we approached today was located at Howe Street (between Robson and West Georgia Street). I think the other one is stationed at the Olympic Cauldron.
We asked what the most popular item is and the lady behind the counter told us it’s the “Fish Taco” and “Fried Chicken Sandwich”. I always love fish so I ordered a Fish Taco and my friend decided to go for the weekly special “Prawn and Beef Taco”. Since we were getting two Tacos, we enjoyed a special price of $9, which was nice. If not, you have to pay $5 for one Taco alone.
The waiting time was around 10 minutes since there weren’t any line ups. When we received our orders, we were a little shocked at its portions.
Look at the tiny fish and three small prawns buried beneath a massive amount of lettuce, tomatoes, and onions! Why not keep things in proportion? I guess it’s partially our problem to assume that we’ll be given a bigger portion from a street food cart for its cost.
Despite my initial disappointment with the size, the taco itself was amazingly good!
I love their soft taco shells and both of the Tacos were really moist, but not soggy. You can tell that their lettuce and tomatoes/salsa were fresh and paired well with the carefully prepared fried fish and fried prawns. It’s crispy outside, tender and moist inside! With crispy lettuce and moist salsa, it created an amazing texture that brought my taste buds to another level. The Prawn and Beef Taco had a sweet curry taste to it, while the Fish Taco had a refreshing masala yogurt taste. Overall both tacos were light and refreshing for a summer afternoon!
From another perspective, the proportion between fish and prawns with the vegetables in the Taco makes a healthy meal! It might be a good portion for a lady who works in downtown Vancouver and feels like having a light, healthy and delicious lunch. For $5 dollars, that’s totally worth it and some may consider it the cheapest yet healthiest lunch they can ever get in downtown. Personally I still think it’s a little pricey but thankfully, I don’t work in downtown. Nevertheless, Feastro the Rolling Bistro is definitely one of the many gourmet food trucks people have been talking about!
